Books At One, Letterfrack, Connemara, Co.Galway
In 2021 I was commissioned by Books at One to design their new book shops garden area.
The goal, to create a space where people could relax, enjoy a book and a coffee and a performance area for book recitals and music.
My roll, to design an work with the builder's on the build of the garden. Along with my Dad a skilled craftsmen we prepared an installed the wooden fencing and seating area.

Funions (Funny Onions) were made for Body & Soul festival. What was meant to be one copper piece made from an old water tank has turned into a exploration of experimenting with multiple sizes, materials, lighting and wind power generation.
These are durable, robust and even flat pack!
These spiral created with a little bit of maths mimic many shapes like the fibonacci theory, seashells, music symbols, onions and whatever your feeling yourself.
Watch this space, more FUN to come with these shapes.

Crescent Moon was made for Body an Soul music & arts festival 2019.
Its made from willow with an internal metal frame, all of which was made on site. In the past I have only worked with hazel and this was my first time to experiment with willow, I love the variants of colour you get from the willow and of course the smell.
I really enjoy getting to make a piece out on site over a few days as your never quiet sure what the final outcome might be. It can change depending on the landscape and what the willow itself wants to do. Patterns change, lines move but in the end you get something unique to that moment in time.
If you are interested in having something similar or just have an idea that this inspires and would like to collaborate on please go to my contact page and get in touch!
Grain wall 2019 made as part of Rascals Brewery tour. I was requested to design and build an installation that displayed the core grains used in the brewing process.
The design itself is inspired by the shape of a typical grain with its intersecting sections.
As the grain will move over time the panels have been installed so that they also can be removed and topped up easily.
In 2019 Event Fuel asked me to collaborate on dressing the Tesco Banquet tent in association with Temple Street and Pieta house at Electric Picnic. The ideas was to create a fine dining experience with a wild theme.
I wanted to have a dramatic focal point within the tent and as we’re at a music and arts festival, an art installation! So I decided to make a 3 tiered moss chandelier. The chandelier was made from black pipe, and rope covered with moss, it needed to be transportable and light enough to hang from the tent itself.
Alongside the chandelier I collected old lampshades, stripped them and covered the bones of them with moss.
The tables needed to be extravagant yet elegant. So I made two tall vase leafy displays for each of the 10 tables with a moss runner down the middle decorated with cones, bark and flowers.
I really enjoy doing flower arrangements but when I got the go ahead to make a large installation combined with my moss obsession it was a very satisfying challenge to complete.
If you wish to collaborate on something similar, hire or purchase any of the pieces here please go to my contact page and get in touch.
Woven 8 - Body & Soul & Electric Picnic 2018
In keeping with Body & Souls beautiful solstice festival I wanted to build a piece that represented this and the their alchemy theme buy introducing materials such as copper to reflect the sun.
A piece that would change from day to night, that people could interact with and that was also made from natural or reclaimed materials.
The copper itself is made from an old copper tank and I used hazel to build the intersecting arch. I love working with hazel as it so robust and you have to do as the hazel wants, you can not force it or she will snap! Which again is what I enjoy most about working with materials like hazel, every piece is unique and you never can quiet predict what it will look like until completed.
We did have to make a frame in order to have an unsupported piece that could withstand revellers climbing and hanging out of it. My Dad built the frame from steel tubing with special connectors so that it could be broken down, transported and also adapted into different shapes such as a free standing arch.
Woven Sun was created for Body & Soul 2017. Inspired by this summer solstice festival and their commitment to sustainability, I wanted to make a piece that was made from natural materials and that I could also build on site.
This was my first time to work with hazel and it was most definitely a learning curve but oh so satisfying to work with. Hazel as I mentioned before cant be forced and you have to work with it not against. Its like a meditative experience working on these pieces as you get into the flow of twisting a weaving its hard to stop until you just run out of sticks.
In September 2018 I was asked by artist Grainne O’Carroll who set up a group called Dance Among Other Things to be part of their performance for Fringe Festival. It was really interesting and a beautiful experience to see something so natural like the woven sun be installed an urban business park and used as part of a performance piece.
This can be built as a free standing or permanent structure so If you are interested in collaborating or hiring this piece please get in touch over at my contact page.
Rascals brewery wanted to create a cosy beer garden feel for their customers to enjoy while sippin on some beers in the rare aul sunshine.
The main focus was to consider the limited space, lighting and non fixed structures. I really wanted to used materials salvaged from the Rascals site to reflect the industrial feel whilst also bringing Rascals colourful side to the fore.
I started working on plant boxes built from stripped pallets, with creeper gauze back panels which were on casters so they could be wheeled away easily or rearranged in the case of larger events. On the walls I used tins from the kitchen to plant flowers and again create a more inclosed cosy effect.
When selecting the plants we tried to consider ones that both customers and the bees could enjoy the benefits of.
Colours In Motion was my first introduction to working at festival events. The first visual art piece I ever made which as been occasionally renamed “Emotional Colours”.
It started out as an incandescent installation inspired by the novel Sadako and 1000 Paper Cranes, a story of one girl’s unfulfilled dream for peace. Each component individually made from lighting gels and meticulously placed, resulting in a rainbow spectrum of colour. As the sun rises and night falls Colours in Motion becomes a continuous movement of reflective colours bouncing off whatever surface it hits first.
It has been adapted to many spaces over the years, from walkways to stages and embraced many a dance at Body & Soul, Knockanstockan, Electric Picnic, DOTD, Barn Dance, kaleidoscope festival and several other events.
If you wish to hire this piece or just a query please get in touch a my contact page.
Turing one mans rubbish into another mans Disco limbs was born. After I found some mannequin legs discarded I wanted to create a piece that was made up entirely of recycled materials, could change from day to night and be interactive. So I thought “Disco Limbs” and started collecting CDs, baking them to soften, cutting and tediously applying them to a collection of mannequin parts I’d collected.
Disco limbs made their first debut at Body & Soul 2015, Got a bit wind swept at Knockanstockan 2015 resulting in Donna being locked in a cage for Electric Picnic 2018.
Disco limbs as shimmied many a party and if you would like to hire or collaborate please get in touch over at my contact page.
